Paulo Nigro
More than 40 years of global executive leadership across pharma, industrial biotech, and healthcare
About Paulo
Paulo Nigro is a globally seasoned chief executive and board leader with more than 40 years of experience driving innovation, sustainability, and enterprise growth across multinational organizations — including several in healthcare and life sciences. He contributes senior strategic and governance experience to PHP Biotech’s Executive Committee.
Trained as a mechanical engineer (Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado), Nigro complemented his engineering foundation with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management (Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie) and an MBA and executive education at IMD Business School and Singularity University. He began his career at Philips, Goodyear, and Aga before joining Tetra Pak in 1991, where over roughly 25 years he held escalating leadership roles including CEO of the Canadian operation, CEO in Italy, and Vice President for the Americas cluster.
He subsequently served as President and CEO of Aché Laboratórios, one of Brazil’s largest pharmaceutical companies (2014–2017); Global CEO of InterCement (2018–2019); CEO and board member of GranBio, an industrial biotechnology company (2020–2021); and CEO of Hospital Sírio-Libanês, a century-old, internationally recognized Brazilian hospital (2021–2024). In 2024, the institution was ranked among the world’s top 100 hospitals by Newsweek Magazine, and Paulo Nigro was named one of the top 5 CEOs in the global healthcare sector. He is currently active as a board advisor, keynote speaker, mentor, and startup investor, including as a partner at NeoGenomica.
This breadth — global P&L leadership, pharmaceutical and hospital experience, industrial biotech, IPOs and turnarounds, and board governance across multiple continents — gives Nigro an unusually complete view of how a life-sciences venture scales from innovation to impact. For PHP Biotech, he offers strategic counsel on growth, partnerships, sustainability, and the executive discipline required to move a deep-tech asset toward the clinic and the market.
