João Marcelo Carucci is Chief Financial Officer of PHP Biotech, responsible for the company’s financial strategy, capital planning, and investor relationships. He brings a venture-building and early-stage investment background that is well matched to the realities of financing a clinical-stage deep-tech company.

Carucci began his studies in Economics and Financial Sciences at Insper — one of Brazil’s leading business and economics schools — in 2012, and has since focused his career on developing and scaling companies alongside high-performing teams. He has worked as a Venture Capital specialist within the FCJ Venture Builder ecosystem, the venture builder that partnered in PHP Biotech’s founding, giving him direct familiarity with the company’s origins and growth thesis. His experience spans seed and venture investments, company building, and digital business development, including leading technology-driven ventures aligned with ESG principles for the Brazilian market.

For a biotech advancing a novel therapeutic through preclinical and Phase I development, the CFO’s role is pivotal: modeling multi-year cash runway against milestone-driven R&D spend, structuring non-dilutive and equity financing, and communicating a complex scientific story to investors in financial terms. Carucci’s venture-capital lens — understanding how early-stage investors evaluate risk, milestones, and platform optionality — helps position PHP Biotech’s dual-asset story (the PHP53-nb lead candidate plus the reusable GEN01-AD nanobody delivery platform) to the capital markets.

Working alongside the CEO and executive committee, Carucci focuses on ensuring that scientific ambition is backed by a credible, disciplined financial plan and that each development milestone is funded and de-risked.
